French Stamps
Installation 2005, dimension variable, 300 rubber stamps, colored ink, stamp pads
The 300 rubber stamps with quotes on the everyday lives of French-speaking residents of Chicago are organized from north to south, analogous to the topography of Chicago.
It is along this axis that the populous American city with the highest degree of segregation is structured. The Francophone segments cut across all districts and social classes.
The city’s textual fabric is overlapped with the Francophones’ life stories.
